I think you are talking about a spinning rod and reel combo.

Depends on how your fishing there are a lot of different forms. Tightlining, baitcasting, etc. All depends on what your trying to catch. Most of the deepsea fish are caught by a form of trolling by dragging a bait behind a boat. It works well for spotted perch (white perch).

i think what your after is a course or float rod for fishing in lakes or rivers and the usual reel is a fixed spool reel.

this is a trick question right? I am going to take a guess but without knowing whether the reel is mounted on top of the rod or under it is what you mean by “regular” I am going to say …. a rod and reel?

It is called conventional fishing tackle.

Here in Australia we call them ‘overhead combo’ if the reel is mounted above the rod, or ‘eggbeater combo’ if the reel is mounted under the rod.

I’d be inclined to say a spin cast reel is what most people would call a reel that has the line inside the reel a line release button on the back and is mounted atop the rod. These are great reel & rod combos for most “part time” fishermen. A Zebco 33 would be a great example.

I think this might help a little.

Most people start with a “spinning” or “spincasting” reel and move up to a baitcasting reel with a little more experience.

    A few kinds:

    Spinning
    Spincasting
    Baitcasting
    Conventional

Spinning is probably the most common, but baitcasting tackle looks more like what non-fishermen think a fishing outfit looks like. Spincasting is a “push-button” outfit, usually used by beginners and kids, while conventional is the basic saltwater type of tackle (though the other kinds are often used in the ocean as well).
