Trout fly fishing info on reel, rods and tackle.?

Posted by admin on Friday, February 5th, 2010

I’m tying to understand how to buy a better and lighter weight rig. I’m looking for 2 or 3 lb system for small golden trout, got any ideas, news, reviews or deals?

I would go with an ugly stick ultralight paired with an okuma reel. in my opinion the both are best buys for the money. you could go higher in price and may get better, but you will not go wrong with this combo.

Follow this link and click on a rod, then search for fly fishing rods…….http://www.jrwfishing.com/fishing_rods_reels.html

When fly fishing for smaller size trout you want to use a 2 – 4 weight fly rod. This will be much lighter and not be as stiff. The length won’t matter as much for weight but can make a huge difference if you are fishing in an open area or you are trying to fish around brush and trees. Smaller length for more accurate casts. Longer for longer casts.

You’ll also want a reel that will match the weight of your rod (in this case a 2 – 4 weight reel). Don’t forget to also get the right fly line to match the weight of your rod too.

If your main priority is a lighter weight rig, then brand won’t matter as much as the weight of your rod.
