I’m new to fly fishing and was at the lake Friday evening fishing the bank of a small lake. I must of had 25 strikes on a spider that I was using but no takers. It seemed like the fish were doing body slams on the spider but never coming back to finish him off. So what do I need to do to get the fish to eat the spider.
All three of you guys are right. I’m still having trouble setting the hook. After 40 years of Bass fishing it’s hard to not set the hook that way. I’m learning to use the Fly Rod correctly. Secondly the Spider I was using was to large. I went back Sunday morning with a traditional pole and line. Caught nothing but stunted panfish. Time to find another lake to try. The reason I was even at this lake was that the State Department of Conservation stocks this lake with Trout for the winter season. Just checking things out.
