My dad and I fished mountain streams during my whole childhood. He grew up fishing Tellico Plains, TN. We’ve fished around Gatlinburg and mostly over in Cherokee, NC. We were looking for other good places to go, as it has been years since we went to Cherokee and then the fishing wasn’t too great. We aren’t fly fisherman. We’re spinner and blue jean kinda guys.

We have fished off in the smokies before. We aren’t so big on the slow rolling tail race waters. We like the upper mountain streams.

We’re in Northeast AL so the closer the better. As I said, Tellico was the place to go when my dad was younger, but several years back we went and drove around an hour before we found a place to pull over and fish.

ok now i know where to find trouts, but the question is, what is the best bait for that? also… i think this stream holds only small ones, so wouldn’t the fly kind of in line spinner bait little bit too big for them?

Small Stream Fly Fishing Problems?

I have started fly fishing a very small stream (8-10 feet wide, 4-6 feet deep pools), My only problem is that the sides of the stream are covered with reeds, willows, and trees and there are many tree branches over the top of the stream. This means that there is no room to cast overhead from either the sides or in the stream, because there is no room to stand on the sides of the stream. Does anyone have any suggestions for ways I can tackle this stream?
thanksfor the advice dlmrgnk, but should i float a dry fly downstream or a wet fly? Ive also heard that it is not effective to float flies downstream, is this true?
