I just started and im fine with the motion but i dont know how much of the leader to use i have like one and half feet please im going trout fishin tomorrow and don’t wanna waste my time.

when i take out what i think is a dry fly out of my box i throw it out and it floats for a few twitches then sinks is there ne way that i could keep them a float or am i using the wrong type of fly..help me please.
