What were the most interesting or bizarre conversations or people that you met while fishing?

Most interesting is the old man that taught me how to fly fish. I didnt know what I was doing and when I asked him he showed me everything. Weirdest person was the old guy I met at the pier and he was giving me advice about sex and diseases, he wasnt even a doctor.
Have any of you ever made your own poles and fishing flies? Do people still do that?
