Wow! The two new Sage Bass Fly Fishing Rods provide a unique solution to two specific problems that have plagued fly anglers for years; a) turning over and accurately casting bulky, wind resistant flies without getting tired and frustrated and b) fighting fish quickly with power and authority. The Smallmouth and Largemouth Fly Rods are extremely fast and stiff, and with their short length, are powerful levers for hooking and turning fish quickly, when you need to. lolrobinon 30 Dec 2009 at 11:00 pm 2This rod seems awesome tbh with its two weights. Just a question, does the line come with the rod? And if so, does the LARGE-weight fit for topwater for pike?

baetis44on 31 Dec 2009 at 12:11 am 4This fly rod is designed to actually land big bass, unlike most wimpy 9 footers. You can put it to them with this short stiff profile. Highly recommended. Flies are a more subtle mid season alternative to weighted plastics, etc for finicky California Bass.
sirpilfon 31 Dec 2009 at 12:21 am 5i just got into using a baitcaster, but ive fly fished for 4-5 years now. i definitally think baitcasting is nice over a spinning real for many purposes, but fly fishing holds a place in my heart.
sirpilfon 31 Dec 2009 at 12:43 am 6thats a very good point.
sirpilfon 31 Dec 2009 at 12:59 am 7i never had a problem getting bass to bite on any of my poppers. i just got this sage bass rod (waiting for it to ship tho because cabela’s had none in stock) because I enjoyed bass fly fishing quiet a bit when I tried it but i like how this one is 7’11″ and comes with the line.
my step father makes his own rods, and I might have him build me a rod for pinning if I get into that.
JONESxSODAon 31 Dec 2009 at 1:50 am 8I want to get one of these rods but they cost a lot so I just make my own and they only cost about 60 to make but they look kick ass but take a while to put a cool thread pattern on it.
KeepItRBLon 31 Dec 2009 at 2:49 am 9thats why i use a baitcaster i can pitch my bait exactly where i want and i dont have to reel it back in i can just flip it to another spot… plus ive had bass hit my bait all different places including right before touching shore or reaching the boat.
i did bring my fly rod to a bass pond today and had a lot of fun though.
ChicoSuave14on 31 Dec 2009 at 2:52 am 10I wanted to see this guy fish……
kensho3on 31 Dec 2009 at 2:52 am 11you have to admit that the time spent OUT of the strike zone when using spinning gear is ridiculous. having to reel all the way in just to spend another few seconds in the strike zone is a huge waste and is just absurd after a while. I find spin fishing incredibly boring compared to fly fishing.
KeepItRBLon 31 Dec 2009 at 3:09 am 12I’ve never learned to enjoy bass that much on the fly rod. These sage rods are outrageously priced too, and not everyone can build their own. For 300 i got my Shimano Crucial medium xtra-fast action with no cost lifetime warranty and an abu garcia revo-sx. The only time I enoyed usin a fly rod on bass is when i can see them and they are very picky I will toss a nymph infront of them its a blast. I just know I can catch more fish, faster and cheaper on gear.

cdd0824on 31 Dec 2009 at 5:10 am 16I used to live right down the street from the pond, I now live in Bozeman, MT. Glenshire is a great area, I miss it.
crosscreek3on 31 Dec 2009 at 5:47 am 17Yes it is…nice pond.
cdd0824on 31 Dec 2009 at 6:28 am 18Is that the Glenshire Pond in Truckee?
solamisandwichon 31 Dec 2009 at 6:57 am 19i just hope some other flyfisherman besides me finds this pretty stupid.
baetis44on 31 Dec 2009 at 7:18 am 20I’ve used one. It throws BIG flies very nicely.

CityAngleron 31 Dec 2009 at 8:51 am 22SMALLMOUTH!!!!
ajsuttson 31 Dec 2009 at 8:59 am 23I think I’m going to pick up the Smallmouth version. Special applications with bass bugs, but definitely worth having when needed!
