New to Fly Fishing?

Posted by admin on Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Hi All, I just moved to a new area. Where I’m from I always fished with my Canoe. Now where I’m at it is inconvenient to take the canoe with me to go fishing. Where do I put a fish when Fly Fishing in the middle of a river with my Waders on?

you can buy baskets that hang from your waist. you can also tie a stringer to your belt that can trail off to keep them fresh.

I ALWAYS!!!!! use a stringer, unless im in the ocean or near where alligators might be (I live in florida) I always feel it is better to keep fish alive and fresh. It’s a cheap and very good way to hold onto fish. Or just get a small cooler with ice and leave it on the bank. Also you could look into a creel, Its a small shoulder bag that you can swing to your back and throw the fish in, you will never even notice it on you. Unless you have a good day of fishing!

    Shut up and Fish!!!

    *edit*
shut up and fish is a local bait shop in coco beach….wasn’t telling you to shut up and fish….lol its become a local motto for the fisherman.

Using a stringer tied around your belt will keep the fish alive. You can get a basket that can be put on your belt. You may also look at getting a tube, and putting a basket, stringer, or cooler on it if the water is deep enough. Good Luck!

When i fly fish i mainly wade like you however the fish i catch aren’t in size as they are mainly wild brown trout, so my advice to you is to keep only what you need and if you do keep the fish i suggest a fly vest, many have a large back pocket and as soon as you’ve quickly dispatched the fish put them in a bass bag and into the large back pocket, largest pocket Ive seen is in my fishpond gore range fly vest you can easily and comfortably hold two 3lb trout in the mesh pocket. pesonally though i release them when im river fishing.
