Looking for suggestions for a fly fishing trip?

Posted by admin on Thursday, July 29th, 2010

My 40th birthday is approaching (rapidly) and I have been given an opportunity to travel to any part of the continental US for a 2 week fly fishing trip either this fall or next spring. I am opening it up here for suggestions. My ideal trip would be one where I could hire a guide for a day or two then fish on my own.

Anyone had any good trips they would recommend?

In my opinion, although hard to choose, it would definetly be between the Henry’s Fork river on the Wyoming/Idaho border, or the Madison River in Yellowstone. Both offer 5 Star fishing success with Browns and huge Rainbows. There is a few guide services along the Henry’s fork, dont recall the names however.

I think Juniper, FL would give you what you want.

This website should be very useful, especially if your planning a trip to Alaska which is one of THE places to go to for salmon, trout and grayling, the article is very informative

I would recommend fishing the rivers in the great lake region. They have huge browns and rainbows and all you have to do to find a great guide there is ask around, look in the phonebook, or really ride down to the local outfitter.

depending on what style of fishing you want there are way to many places out west to name off that would all fit and be a great experience. as was noted the yellowstone area is a great choice. but there are very good areas, less known but equally as good all over the western US. fall is a great time to fish out west, spring means you could hit runoff conditions but either way there will be decent fishing to be had. I have lived in both colorado and idaho and could fill your itinerary easily with great spots in either state.
