When you get it down, use the butt section of your leader and tie a nail knot onto the end of your line. By the way, if you would buy yourself a nail knot tool you will thank yourself many times over for having done so. They are great tools to own. Then tie a second nail knot about a half inch to one inch above the first nail knot. You will not loose that leader or later on the loop to loop connector that way. When that leader starts to get destroyed, leave about 10 inches of the leader tied to your fly line and cut off the rest. Then tie a perfection loop onto the end of that butt section and now you have a permanent loop for loop to loop connections. You only want the overall length of that section to be about 4 inches. Also make very sure you insert it straight as possible so not to puncture side of fly line. Or as said the nail or blood knot! They are also available in fluorescent and serve as a strike indicator.
