Fly fishing Pole questions?
Posted by admin on Sunday, February 7th, 2010
i can not find any information on this rod that was left behind when my great grand father died, It is a very old 8-9 foot bamboo fly fishing rod in good condition. The logo label on it has worn a bit but i think i was able to make out what it said for the most part.. Looks as it said Angel Fish Brand than under it had a picture of a angelfish and under that said Tokyo japan, well every search tactic i have tried on the web has lead me no where and i cannot find any information on it at all as the year the kind of bamboo or how much it cost or worth anything today.. Is there any place that you can search vintage fishing poles?

I love reading his column every month and he seems to know his stuff. He does field a lot of fly fishing tackle inquiries as well. At the bottom of the page he gives a phone number 405-277-3636 and website http://www.karlwhite.com. He should be able to help with your item. I’m surprised Just Asking is not all over this one he is the resident fly fishing expert on here, Also look on Ebay it may give you some idea as well.

after WWII the japanese sold us an awful lot of very cheap stuff. toys, radios, fishing tackle, lots more.
for some reason, most of the older goods do have a collectors market EXCEPT for their fishing tackle. the only japanese fishing collectables are old bone jigs used for saltwater fishing. most of the fly-fishing gear was really crappy junk. same with all the old spinning reels.
when shimano came on the scene, quality started improving.
now, japanese gear is among the best. but l still don’t hear much about their fly tackle. l guess it’s still junk.
IMHO
pheasant tailon 08 Feb 2010 at 2:06 am 4The rods made in Japan post WW II are in a word…….junk. They were not made with tonkin cane and were poorly made all aspects (ferrules, guides, cane, glue). The most you can expect to extract is $ 25-30 on E-bay.
