Posted by admin on Monday, December 28th, 2009

Fly fishing for bonefish in the flats of Nassau, Bahamas with fly Fishing guide Aaron Bain who took me wading for bonefish in skinny water using fly rods. Aaron picked me up at Atlantis (Paradise Island) and we were waiding for bones minutes later.

Sorry to hear that. Fishing is often frustrating, but you learn something new everytime. Maybe when you go back to Nassau you can spend a little more time fishing or book a guide and you will probably get a bone.

    Good luck!

Just got back from the cruise and didn’t catch anything. I went fishing on the beach behind Atlantis there in Nassau. It sucked that the security guard told me to stop fishing. Oh well, I still had fun on the cruise.

    Hi,

I used the usual crazy charlies etc. I think I had a scampi with heavy eyes on the bigger fish. We didn’t target the pompanos, they were there and got to the flies before the bones saw it :)

Woohoo!!! Today is the day I leave to the Bahamas on the cruise. I soooooo am tired of waiting. But it’s finally here. We hit CocoCay, St. Thomas, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Nassau, Bahamas. I’m gonna try to catch bones in CocoCay and in Nassau. But in San Juan, I’m gonna try to catch baby tarpon. Did you know that they have tarpon in golf course ponds?! I can’t wait!

I’m sooo excited to finally go to the Bahamas! What flies did you use to catch the bonefish. Also, what fly did you use to catch the pompano? Thanks.

    Hi,

I’d love to get a slam! I was down in the lower Keys this May and while I had lots of fun and played several fish, I only landed one nice bonefish.

You should come down to Big Pine Key and catch a slam. We have bonefish up to 13lbs, permit up to 40lbs and tarpon right now are running in the 20-100lb range. You will need to cast at least 40-60′ and being able to double haul helps…

As far as I know the bones are the main target on the flats while wading, but the fishing guides really know whats going on, so you might want to book one of them.

What fish live on the flats besides bonefish? If there are tarpon, is fishing for them good?

  22. albieontheflyon 29 Dec 2009 at 9:12 am 22

    Congratulations on winning a cruise!

Nassau has lots of flats so you might need to wade to spot fish. You can always blind cast on deeper water and you might just get something.

Best of luck and enjoy Nassau, its a great town!
