Big Rainbow Trout Brawl Fly Fishing on the Truckee River

See more @ www.theflysyndicate.com Finally, the big one that didn’t get away. I started recording about a minute or two into the fight, I missed a couple of huge aerials but got a few other good jumps on tape. I’m winded cause I had to chase this guy before he stood and fought. Big browns are to be expected on the Truckee, but big bows are a treat! Got this guy in Reno…in town; I get lazy sometimes and just fish the closest holes, but then again, why go to the CA side when there are 2-foot long fish right in town!

    They’re wild alright, fight like made. You can tell when they’re planters, they’re fins are all jacked and they don’t have any red.

    @trotchye
    It was BIG. It swam as fast as it could down stream, almost pulled the rod out of my hand and went under a rock, snapping the line

    What were you using? Like a copper john or something? And what time of year are you fishing in when there’s still snow and the rainbows are really colorful? Thnx

    This was actually in Nevada, still in town.

    About three months ago I was fishing with my dad in the nevada side of the truckee, and the browns were spawning. He caught three HUGE rainbows that were abot 24″ and 5 pounds. Then at sunset i hooked and lost a 7 pound brown trout in the same pool, and I’m only 11, and it was my 2nd time flyfishing :)

    I fabricated a simple aluminum bracket which I bite down on, the camera is at the level of my jaw and I’m able to film anything I’m looking at from a true 1st person perspective. Thanks for the comment!
